Vol. 42, Issue 3 WWW,methodist.edu/studentmedia ! ethodist College, Fayetteville, NC Methodist 2004 Loyalty Day Congressman Mike McIntyre volunteers to help LAURA PHILLIPS Staff Writer Loyalty Day, an annual tradi tion that predates the opening of Methodist College, was lead this year by North Carolina Congress man Mike McIntyre. Choosing to take a day off from his busy life in politics, McIntyre, along with Methodist's Director of Annual Fund and Parent Program ming Heather Dunbar lead over 150 volunteers in raising donations used to meet the needs of the school’s an nual funds. The money was successfully raised through the support of local businesses, churches, alumni and parents who have committed by pledging to donate4owards the schools fund for a three-year span. These donations help pay the annual cost for operating Methodist, such as lights, water, heat, guest speakers as well as scholarship sup port for students. According to McIntyre “By giv ing generously we can demonstrate a strong support for the positive val ues that Methodist College represents in higher education.” These positive values are what drove a group of citizens that call themselves the Foundation Board, to help raise money for the school’s needs. This Board has pledged to raise yearly operating funds to compensate for budget demands, and over the years they have raised more than $7 million for the school. In this mission to raise money, they all spent an entire day seeking loyalty from the community.
